International Area Studies Review (IASR) is a refereed journal and indexed in Scopus. It encourages free expression and discussion of different ideas and approaches, which assists in the better understanding of various regions over the world with either qualitative or quantitative methods. The journal aims to represent a wide range of research interests concerning area studies in political science, economics, ethics, sociology, culture, law, arts, and other interdisciplinary works. It welcomes and offers a platform for original research from a multi-disciplinary perspective in new and emerging areas by scholars and researchers with doctoral degrees.

Only manuscripts of sufficient quality that meet the aims and scope of IASR will be reviewed. IASR does not review papers under consideration for publication elsewhere and have not already been published elsewhere.

The journal uses a double-blinded review process. There are no fees payable to submit or publish in this Journal. Open Access option is available.

Open Access Option

IASR offers optional open-access publishing. An Article Processing Charge (APC) of 2,000 US dollars currently applies to accepted papers. The option provides a quick review process as follows:

  2. 2) Acceptance notification within 30 days of submission (Blind peer review process)
  3. 3) Article publishes within 60 days

Article Types

Regular Research Article: Each article must not exceed 10,000 words in length. IASR features country and regional studies from around the world. We are also open to global comparative analysis. IASR publishes articles featuring cutting-edge statistical or game-theoretic analyses and ethnographic or historical case studies. We welcome submissions from Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Sociology, and other relevant disciplines.

Data Feature Articles: These articles introduce a new dataset or a significant revision of an existing one. Data Feature Articles describe a new dataset, emphasizing how the latest data can make a genuine contribution to area studies, for instance, by pointing to results that are significantly different from previously published work. A Data Feature Article is less than 6,000 words long and is double-blind peer-reviewed.

Review Essays: A Review Essay synthesizes ‘state of the art’ research and can be about several books, articles, or a combination of the two. The focus should be thematic rather than on a few books or articles. These essays will be double-blind peer-reviewed. They will be no longer than 5,000 words. Each issue of the IASR will not contain more than one Review Essay.
